Frequently Asked Questions — Mooring Ropes & Wire

Answers to common questions about our mooring ropes & wire services.

What types of mooring ropes and lines do you supply?

We supply the full range of synthetic mooring lines including polypropylene (PP), polyester, nylon (polyamide), HMPE (high-modulus polyethylene — Dyneema/Spectra), and combination ropes. We also supply traditional Manila hemp ropes, towing lines, towlines, heaving lines, pilot ladders, and mooring tails. Wire ropes and steel-core mooring lines are also available.

Do you supply HMPE/Dyneema high-strength mooring lines?

Yes. We supply HMPE (high-modulus polyethylene) mooring lines under brands such as Dyneema and Spectra. These offer the same breaking strength as steel wire at a fraction of the weight, with improved safety due to low rebound energy. They are increasingly required on large tankers and bulk carriers for safe mooring operations.

What is the standard mooring line length and diameter for cargo ships?

Standard mooring lines for cargo vessels are typically 200–220 metres in length. Diameter depends on the minimum breaking load (MBL) required by the vessel's mooring arrangement plan. Common diameters range from 56mm to 96mm for large vessels. We supply ropes coiled on reels or cut to specific lengths with end splices as required.

Can you supply replacement ropes urgently for vessels in port?

Yes. We hold extensive stock of the most common rope types and sizes at our Tuzla warehouse. For standard sizes, same-day delivery is possible for vessels in Istanbul area ports. For non-stock items or large diameter ropes, delivery is typically 2–5 working days.

Do you also supply wire ropes and anchor chains?

Yes. In addition to synthetic mooring ropes, we supply wire ropes for mooring, towing, and crane applications, as well as stud link and studless anchor chains in all calibres and grades (Grade 2, Grade 3, R3, R3S, R4, R4S). All chains are supplied with certificates and mill test reports.
