The Challenge

The vessel's primary electric motor had suffered severe internal damage, with rotor windings showing signs of thermal degradation and mechanical stress. Operating in one of the world's busiest container terminals, the clock was ticking against scheduled departures and contractual obligations.

The motor's massive dimensions and weight required specialized heavy-lift equipment, while the technical complexity demanded expert rewinding capabilities. Port authorities imposed strict safety protocols and weather conditions added additional pressure to an already critical timeline.

Our Solution

Seaway deployed a comprehensive rapid-response protocol, mobilizing our specialized marine electric motor team alongside heavy-lift operators. Our state-of-the-art workshop facility was configured for 24/7 operation, with precision rewinding equipment and diagnostic tools ready for immediate deployment.

Our engineers executed a systematic approach: safe extraction using certified lifting equipment, immediate transportation to our facility, complete diagnostic analysis, precision rewinding of rotor and stator assemblies, comprehensive testing and seamless reinstallation—all while maintaining continuous communication with vessel operations.

Execution Process

Hour 0-4: Emergency Mobilization & Extraction

Rapid-response team deployed to vessel location. Heavy-lift equipment positioned, safety protocols established and motor extraction commenced. Multi-ton motor carefully lifted through deck access using certified rigging and crane operations.

Hour 4-8: Transportation & Initial Assessment

Secured transportation to Seaway's specialized workshop facility. Immediate diagnostic analysis revealed extent of rotor damage, stator condition assessment and bearing integrity evaluation. Complete disassembly initiated with photographic documentation at every stage.

Hour 8-24: Precision Rewinding & Component Restoration

Core overhaul phase with expert electrical engineers performing precision rotor rewinding, stator coil replacement where necessary, bearing housing inspection and refinishing, shaft alignment verification and insulation testing throughout the process.

Hour 24-30: Comprehensive Testing & Quality Assurance

Full electrical testing suite including insulation resistance verification, high-potential testing, vibration analysis, no-load testing and simulated load conditions. All parameters validated against OEM specifications and maritime classification standards.

Hour 30-36: Reinstallation & Commissioning

Motor transported back to vessel, precision lifting and positioning into engine room, mechanical and electrical connections restored, final alignment procedures completed and successful commissioning under operational load. Vessel cleared for departure on schedule.
